A 2-in-1 Arctic experience: Aurora hunting and snowshoeing.

This is not a standard Aurora tour. We actively hike into the dark on snowshoes to track down the Northern Lights. By trekking through snowy forests and open landscapes near Levi, we get away from the crowds and city light pollution. It is a very hands-on combination: you get a real local experience on the trail, paired with the reward of an Aurora hunt. Warm gear and hot drinks are provided so you can focus on the physical hike and keeping an eye on the sky.

What can you expect from your Aurora Walk on Snowshoes in Levi?

  • A unique 2-in-1 experience combining an exciting snowshoe walk with dedicated Aurora hunting.
  • Small group tour far away from big crowds and light pollution.
  • A break for a warm drink and snack out in the quiet Lapland winter.
  • No previous snowshoeing experience needed – the hike is light and accessible.
  • Professional photos of the tour included.
  • Practical tips on capturing the Aurora Borealis with your camera.
  • Guides leading you at a relaxed pace and actively checking the sky for the Northern Lights.
  • In the event of no snow or not much snow, the activity will be a regular hike instead of a snowshoeing walk.

Witness: The Northern Lights on the move.

Explore Lapland’s wilderness on snowshoes as we actively search for the Aurora Borealis. We trek across snowy forests and open landscapes to find dark viewpoints far from city lights. While spotting the Northern Lights is the main focus of our walk, simply navigating the quiet Arctic winter at night is an adventure of its own. By staying on the move and scanning the sky, every night in Levi gives you a hands-on and memorable way to enjoy nature after dark.

Experience: A different kind of Aurora hunt.

Step off the roads and head directly into the snowy forest. This trip offers a different, much more hands-on way to hunt for the Northern Lights. By combining an easy snowshoe walk deep into the Finnish wilderness with our search for the Aurora, you get a quieter, more personal experience away from the crowds. It is a straightforward, beginner-friendly way to enjoy an active Arctic winter night on the trail.

Challenge yourself: The Arctic cold.

In Levi, temperatures drop to –20°C or lower. We provide thermal suits, but the real warmth comes from the snowshoeing itself. The extreme cold is part of the challenge, turning a standard Northern Lights viewing into an active winter expedition.

Our terms and conditions and our generous 24hr cancellation policy can be found here.

It’s a great idea to dress in layers, so as you warm up or cool down, you can add and remove layers. We suggest: woollen base layer, woollen sweater, down mid layer and a shell or windproof jacket as the final layer. Jeans, especially skinny jeans, aren’t windproof, nor do they have any thermal qualities. High heels and fashion shoes are unsuitable.
