At Wandering Owl, we have a focus on being as sustainable as possible. This mind set translates also to the food we serve. To minimize our impact on the environment we have decided to serve vegetarian/vegan food. This ensures that we are following our own standard in minimizing impacts on the environment. We make campfires for some of our activities. Those fires are ignited in a fire bowl to ensure that the microhabitat remains undisturbed, and we leave only a small trace, if at all. In years passed we offered e.g., marshmallows for the fire as a fun activity. But since then, we have found that a lot of trash gets created by doing so. Additionally, we saw that the plastic that remained was sometimes found in the beautiful nature. That is why we have decided against having SUP (single use plastics) as part of our tours, so we can be part of the solution and not the problem.
The food we serve is handmade and mostly locally sourced. Below you will find a list of the activities and the associated dishes:
Summer/Winter Arctic Landscape, Night/Day Hike, Snowshoeing activities:
– Hot chocolate (vegan)
– Sandwich (vegan)
– Homemade cookies (vegetarian)
Aurora Hunt:
– Hot chocolate (vegan)
– A selection of soups (carrot soup, lentil soup or seaweed soup*; vegan)
– Homemade cookies (vegetarian)
*The seaweed soup is sourced locally from sugar kelp (Laminaria saccharina). One of our friends is an expert in the field of macroalgae and knows which ones to harvest and at what time, to have the least impact on the environment.
We can provide gluten-free or lactose-free options on request. Please inform us well in advance about any allergies or special dietary requirements so we can do our best to cater to them.
You can check with us for allergens in the food served on Wandering Owl tours.
