About the meal:

Help yourself to hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) around the fire inside a warm candlelit gamme (traditional Sámi hut). Enjoy a cold smoked salmon starter, followed by a bidos (a traditional Sámi stew) and Sámi bread (a vegetarian / vegan / gluten free option is also possible). Ask the Tromsø Arctic Reindeer team onsite for more information about the meal or if you wish to have another hot chocolate to warm up.

Inclusions:

Transportation, round of reindeer sledding (15-20 min), feeding of wild reindeer around the camp, traditional warm 3-course dinner hot drinks — tea, coffee, and hot chocolate — by the fire inside a warm candlelit gamme (traditional Sámi hut), storytelling of Sámi culture, and a joik performance (traditional Sámi folk song).

Nighttime Sámi Experience: Reindeer Sledding, Feeding & Culture

Begin your Sámi evening with our partner, Tromsø Arctic Reindeer, on a 15–20 minute reindeer sledding ride along the coast. After the ride, feed around 300 of these magnificent animals and try your hand at lasso throwing (not on real reindeer) before stepping into the warm, candlelit gamme for a three-course meal including bidos, a traditional Sámi stew, with hot drinks and cookies. End the night gathered around the fire in the lavvu to enjoy joik (traditional Sámi songs) and stories about Sámi culture and reindeer herding, with the Arctic sky — and possibly the Northern Lights — as your backdrop.

Important information

It might be cold, windy, slippery, icey or muddy, so remember to dress appropriately. Never lean on or touch the fire. Practice common sense around the road, the animals and the fire and listen for instructions from the Tromsø Arctic Reindeer team.

Bus terminal at Tromsø Havn Prostneset, (Samuel Arnesens gate 5, 9008, Tromsø – Google maps link). There are two entrances. One is by the buses and one is between the Terminal and the Clarion Edge. Our guides will be where the buses are ready to depart to camp. If you do go to the wrong entrances, walk through the terminal to the other entrance and you will find Tromsø Arctic Reindeer guides there.

Please look out for the Tromsø Arctic Reindeer guides pick up guides who will be wearing blue ‘Tromsø Arctic Reindeer’ jackets. We want all guests to enjoy the whole experience, so please arrive with time to spare so Tromsø Arctic Reindeer can ensure a prompt departure of 10.00

Pick up time: 17.45

  • 25 min bus ride to reindeer camp 

  • Feeding of wild reindeer and walk around the reindeer camp

  • 15-20 min reindeer sledding ride 

  • Hot drinks (tea, coffee, hot chocolate) around the fire inside a warm candle lit gamme (traditional Sami hut)

  • A cold smoked salmon starter, followed by a bidos (a traditional Sami stew) and Sami bread (a vegetarian / vegan / gluten free option is also possible)

  • Chocolate cake and blueberry dessert whilst listening to storytelling of Sami culture and how it is to be a reindeer herder

  • A joik performance (traditional Sami folk song)

  • Guests will have the opportunity to spend time outside and try and catch the northern lights.

  • 25 min bus ride back to Tromsø city centre

Return time: 22.30 in the city center
